Work on high‑precision CNC grinders, robotics, and advanced automation at New England Machine Tools (NEMT) in Bristol, CT.
New England Machine Tools designs and builds custom CNC grinding machines and automation systems. Our paid summer internships give engineering and computer science students hands‑on experience with real equipment, real data, and real projects.
Open Summer Internship Positions
Mechanical Engineering Intern
Work with our mechanical engineering team to design and document components and assemblies for custom CNC grinding and automation systems. – Create and update 3D CAD models and 2D drawings – Help with mechanical layouts, guards, frames, and assemblies – Support bills of materials and engineering changes – Collaborate with manufacturing and assembly on fit‑up issues
Mechatronics Engineering Intern
Join our controls and automation team to support CNC machine integration, motion systems, and robotics. – Assist with setup and testing of CNC axes, spindles, and sensors – Help debug PLC / CNC logic under engineer supervision – Support integration of robots and part‑handling automation – Document wiring changes, I/O lists, and test procedures
Computer Science Intern
Work with engineers to use data and analytics to improve machine performance, reliability, and service. – Collect and organize machine and process data (cycle times, alarms, sensors) – Build small scripts/tools for data cleaning and visualization – Explore simple prediction or anomaly‑detection approaches – Help create internal dashboards or reports for the team
Who should apply?
– Rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering, computer science, or related fields – Interested in hands‑on work with CNC machines and automation – Able to work on‑site in Bristol, CT for the full summer (8 weeks)
