New England Machine Tools is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer for our Bristol, CT facility.

This role is for an experienced mechanical engineer who can take ownership of complex machine designs from concept through customer delivery. You will lead design work on custom CNC grinding machines and automation systems, work directly with customers during the sales process, and serve as the technical expert coordinating between sales, purchasing, and build teams.

What You Will Do

• Design complex assemblies and systems in Autodesk Inventor for custom CNC grinding machines, automation systems, and industrial equipment

• Create detailed 3D models, assembly drawings, bills of materials, and technical documentation for manufacturing and customer deliverables

• Work directly with customers during the sales process to understand requirements, develop solutions, and provide technical input for proposals and quotations

• Serve as the technical expert on specifications and coordinate with purchasing and build teams to ensure accurate purchase orders and component sourcing

• Support the build team during assembly, checkout, and delivery phases by troubleshooting design issues and implementing improvement

• Lead design reviews and contribute to standardization of design practices, component libraries, and engineering workflows

• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal product development and machine improvement initiatives

 

What We Are Looking For

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field

• 3-7 years of professional design experience with complex mechanical assemblies

• Expert-level proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, including advanced assembly modeling, drawing creation, and BOM management

• Proven modeling experience with complex assemblies, preferably in industrial machines, CNC equipment, automation systems, or similar capital equipment

• Direct experience working with customers in a technical or sales support capacity

• Strong communication skills and ability to translate customer requirements into technical specifications

• Experience coordinating with manufacturing, purchasing, and project teams​

• Ability to work on-site in Bristol, CT on a full-time basis
